The Flag of Israel was adopted on October 28, 1948, five months after the establishment of the State of Israel. It depicts a blue hexagram on a white background, between two horizontal blue stripes. The flag was designed for the Zionist Movement in 1891. The basic design is based on the the Jewish prayer shawl, which is traditionally white with blue stripes. The symbol in the center represents the Star of David, a Jewish symbol dating from late medieval Prague, which was adopted by the First Zionist Congress in 1897
Join, or Die was a political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin and first published in his Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754. It was a cartoon showing a snake cut into eight pieces, with each piece labeled with the initials of one of the American colonies. The cartoon appeared along with Franklin’s editorial about the “disunited state” of the colonies, and helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity. This cartoon was used in the French and Indian War to symbolize that the colonies needed to join together to defeat the French and Indians. It became a symbol of colonial freedom during the American Revolutionary War against the British.
